The Smoking Dangers of Flavored E-Cigarettes
The Smoking Dangers of Flavored E-Cigarettes
The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently warned of two new, possibly dangerous unwanted effects from e-juice – vapors and flavors. Most vaporizers use propylene glycol or distilled water to create the flavorings. The thing is that these ingredients are also toxic when ingested. A recently published study in JAMA demonstrates that both vapors and some flavors can interfere with someone’s ability to metabolize carbohydrates and lower insulin levels in the blood. Furthermore, e-juices are usually very sweet, causing further complications in those experiencing diabetes. Juice can also contain high degrees of fructose, which can cause erratic behaviour in children and have diuretic properties.
Nicotine is the addictive element within all e-cigs, tar, nicotine gums, and other pharmaceutical products. Because of this vaporizing tobacco can increase the risk of creating a dependence to nicotine. The increased risk is doubly heightened for young adults and middle-aged smokers who are already at high risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other metabolic complications. It isn’t yet known if the increased risk of cancer will be exacerbated by the increased threat of diabetes.
The FDA cited the chance of nicotine poisoning as you reason it is concerned about e-cigarette flavorings. Nicotine is a poison that Vape Pen can enter the system via skin contact, inhalation, or ingestion. This poisonous material can build up in the body as time passes, causing damage to internal organs and resulting in death. Nicotine has also been demonstrated to mimic the consequences of other drugs like heroin and cocaine. That is particularly dangerous because these addictive substances usually do not cause physical harm, but lead to mental stress and health complications.
Most vaporizers produce smaller amounts of nicotine. Many smokers prefer to use these devices instead of other ways of nicotine delivery, like gum or patches. Therefore the flavors usually do not add any extra nicotine to the system, allowing visitors to keep their nicotine addiction under control. However, there are a few disturbing trends about how e-cigarette companies are choosing to utilize flavorings.
One disturbing factor may be the fact that companies are including nicotine in food products, such as for example ice cream, cookies, and even energy drinks. The FDA does not regulate the number of nicotine present in these products, so they may contain around five milligrams of nicotine. It is unknown whether or not this amount would pose a health risk for a person who is already addicted to cigarettes. A written report released by the American Heart Association estimates that the average smoker is consuming about four packs of cigarettes each day, which translates to about 18 grams of nicotine.
Another danger is that minerals and vitamins found in non-flavored e-juices can in fact be absorbed into the body and provide a way to obtain extra nicotine for vapers. Nicotine is known to have a diuretic influence on your body, causing dehydration, nausea, along with other issues. A report conducted in 2021 showed that the nicotine found in Vitamin E acetate–a popular e-juice ingredient–may be associated with increases in blood circulation pressure and heart rate, that may cause potential damage to the internal organs.
There is also an increased threat of developing lung injury if you work with unflavored e-juices. Even though study didn’t directly connect the e-liquid to lung injury, it looked at two groups of people who used a variety of electronic cigarettes: one who had a history of chronic lung injury; and one who was a wholesome person but used flavored e-cigs frequently. The group with chronic lung injury had significantly higher amounts of vitamin e acetate within their blood compared to the healthy group.
Although the e-liquids have many potential dangers, probably the most disturbing aspect of all may be the fact that many e-liquids are simply sugar water. In e-juices, the artificial flavorings are added so that you can get “cooler” flavors like fruit or chocolate without paying more for it. In doing so, you are fooling the body into believing that it’s actually enjoying the candy or drink you are trying to ingest. This is due to the nicotine in these e-liquids is leaner than what would normally be found in cigarette smoke, and therefore could cause more serious health issues as time passes than regular smoking.
